These number 0 tracing worksheets are for preschool and kindergarten children who are just beginning to learn zero. Children color a large zero, find zeros among other numerals, and trace and write the numeral 0 and the word zero.
Along the way, they learn that zero means none — nothing to count — before finishing with a mixed review. The set has ten printable worksheets for home or classroom use.
Choose a Number to Practice
Worksheet 1: Color Zero

Numeral recognition and coloring. A numeral recognition page with a large outlined zero for coloring and the printed number word zero.
Worksheet 2: Find Zero

Visual numeral discrimination. Children identify zeros among other numerals in a four-by-four grid, with numeral and word tracing models above.
Worksheet 3: Learn to Write Zero

Guided numeral formation. Guided formation practice using a large dotted numeral zero and a dotted number word on handwriting lines.
Worksheet 4: Zero Means None

Zero quantity and numeral tracing. Connects zero with no apples in an empty basket and provides progressively reduced numeral tracing support.
Worksheet 5: 0 and zero

Numeral and word tracing. Pairs the numeral and word with an empty box and includes tracing rows and space for independent practice.
Worksheet 6: Write Zero Yourself

Independent numeral writing. A numeral writing page with a zero model, an empty plate labeled none, one tracing prompt, and blank handwriting lines.
Worksheet 7: Write the Word zero

Independent number-word writing. Number-word handwriting practice connecting zero to no objects, with one dotted word and several blank writing rows.
Worksheet 8: Zero Means Nothing to Count

Zero quantity reinforcement. Reinforces zero quantity through three empty groups and provides numeral tracing and independent writing space.
Worksheet 9: I Know Zero!

Mixed skill review. A mixed review page combining numeral recognition, numeral tracing, word tracing, independent writing, and an empty ten-frame.
Worksheet 10: Practice Writing Zero

Progressive numeral tracing and writing. Five handwriting rows gradually reduce tracing support while retaining a solid zero model at the start of each row.

How to Use These Number 0 Tracing Worksheets
- Start with coloring and finding zero, so children learn to recognize the numeral before they trace it.
- Follow the starting dot and arrow on the guided pages, and talk about what zero means: an empty basket, an empty box, and empty groups have nothing to count.
- Move to independent writing only after the guided tracing feels comfortable, and finish with the mixed review page.
- Keep sessions short and print on A4 paper at Actual Size 100%.
- For repeated practice, print extra copies, or slip a printed page into a clear sleeve and trace it with a dry-erase marker.
- Teach zero as a meaning, not just a shape: point to the empty basket, empty box, and empty ten-frame on Worksheets 4, 5, and 8, and ask children to say ‘zero means none’ before they trace, so the numeral is linked to an empty group rather than memorized as a circle alone.
For background on zero as a count, see the Common Core page for K.CC.A.3, which describes 0 as representing a count of no objects.
Common Core Connections
These number 0 tracing worksheets offer partial practice only with the numeral 0 and the idea that zero means none; they do not cover a full standard on their own. Preschool use is general early number practice with no assigned code.
K.CC.A.3 — “Write numbers from 0 to 20; represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0–20, with 0 representing a count of no objects”: Worksheets 1 and 2, which focus on recognizing and finding 0; Worksheets 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10, which focus on tracing and writing 0; and Worksheets 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, which link 0 to an empty group — an empty basket, an empty box, an empty plate, empty groups, or an empty ten-frame — showing that zero means none. Worksheet 7, which focuses on writing the word zero, is not mapped to this numeral standard.
