Learning the number 2 becomes hands-on in this set for preschool and kindergarten. Children start by coloring a big, friendly 2, then hunt for twos hidden among other numbers, and build confidence as they trace the numeral and spell out the word two.
These number 2 tracing worksheets connect the shape of 2 with the idea of a pair. Two shoes, two hands, two apples and two balloons all show what two looks like as a quantity, not just as a symbol to copy.
The ten pages follow a gentle progression. Recognition comes first, with coloring and finding activities, then guided tracing with a starting dot and arrows, then counting groups of two objects, and finally writing the numeral and the word on blank lines without support.
Each page is a single printable worksheet, so families and teachers can use one page at a time or work through the whole set. Print on A4 paper at Actual Size 100% for handwriting lines that match the size children practice with in class.
Choose a Number to Practice
Worksheet 1: Color Two

Numeral recognition and coloring. A numeral recognition page with a large outlined two for coloring and the printed number word two.
Worksheet 2: Find Two

Visual numeral discrimination. Children find and color twos among other numerals in a four-by-four grid, with dotted numeral and word tracing models above.
Worksheet 3: Learn to Write Two

Guided numeral formation. Guided formation practice using a large dotted numeral two with a starting dot and directional arrows, plus a dotted number word on handwriting lines.
Worksheet 4: Trace Number Two

Numeral tracing and independent writing. Tracing rows start with a solid two model and dotted twos, then gradually leave more blank space for writing 2 independently.
Worksheet 5: Two Means Two

Quantity and numeral tracing. Connects two with pairs of objects — two apples, two stars and two balls — followed by numeral tracing rows and a blank writing line.
Worksheet 6: Find Two Objects

Counting and numeral and word tracing. Children circle the group that has two objects, then trace the number 2, trace the word two, and read and trace 2 = two.
Worksheet 7: 2 and two

Numeral and word tracing. Pairs the numeral 2 and the word two with two balloons, and includes tracing rows, space for independent practice, and a matching activity for the labels 2 and two.
Worksheet 8: Trace the Word two

Number-word tracing and writing. Word tracing practice with a large word two model, dotted rows that gradually reduce support, and a blank line for writing the word independently.

Independent numeral writing. A numeral writing page with a two model, two apples, one dotted tracing prompt, and blank handwriting lines.
Worksheet 10: I Know Two!

Mixed skill review. A mixed review page combining finding twos, counting a group of two objects, numeral tracing, word tracing, and independent writing.

How to Use These Number 2 Tracing Worksheets
- Start with coloring and finding two, so children learn to recognize the numeral before they trace it.
- Follow the starting dot and arrows on the guided pages, and count the pairs together: two apples, two stars, two balls and two balloons.
- Move to independent writing only after the guided tracing feels comfortable, and finish with the mixed review page.
- Keep sessions short and print on A4 paper at Actual Size 100%.
- For repeated practice, print extra copies, or slip a printed page into a clear sleeve and trace it with a dry-erase marker.
When children count a small group in play, have them touch each object once and say one number word for each object, as described in NAEYC’s Play Games, Learn Math! Exploring Numbers and Counting With Your Family.
Common Core Connections
These number 2 tracing worksheets offer partial practice only with the numeral 2; they do not cover a full standard on their own. For kindergarten, two Common Core standards connect to the pages below, and preschool use is general early number practice with no assigned code.
K.CC.A.3 — Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0–20. This post practices only the numeral 2. Recognition and finding connect to Worksheets 1, 2 and 10; tracing and writing 2 connect to Worksheets 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10; and representing two objects with the written numeral 2 — two apples, two stars, two balls, two balloons, or a group with two stars or apples — connects to Worksheets 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10. Worksheet 8, which traces the word two, is not mapped to this numeral standard.
K.CC.B.4.a — When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object. This connects only to Worksheet 6 and Worksheet 10 (section 2), where children count the objects in each unlabeled group — stars and apples in Worksheet 6, stars in Worksheet 10 — and circle the group with two objects.
